The piece
Mayurbhanj in Odisha is known as the land of tigers, and also for its handicrafts. This holder is woven there, by rural artisans, from sabai grass.
The grass is sun-dried, hand-twisted into rope, rubbed against tree bark to take off the rough edges, then braided. It is slow work, and it shows in the object.
